I am primarily a portrait and figurative artist. Instead of a formal degree in art I chose an intensive four year study with some of the most notable portrait artists in the United States: Scott Burdick, Daniel Gerhartz, Quang Ho, Jeffrey Watts, Carolyn Anderson, and Susan Blackwood. I paint on canvas, wood panel, and copper plate. Some of my most interesting work is done on a composite material 2-inch thick made to look like large slabs of solid granite. I call these works"Petroglyphs" and they can be seen on my website at deborahmckennaart.com. In addition to portraiture I create still life paintings and animal portraits. In addition to my studio I have a large formal gallery in my home where many of my works of art are displayed.
